Meet Mia Garza McCord

Mia Garza McCord is President of Hourglass Strategies, LLC, a government and public affairs consulting firm in Texas.

A South Texas native, McCord began her work in Texas government and politics after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. She has nearly two decades of experience in Texas public policy, campaigns, government relations, and non-profit leadership.
​
Prior to founding Hourglass Strategies, LLC, McCord served as President of the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute (TCCRI), an Austin based public policy think-tank. Her service was notable as the organization’s first Hispanic and first woman to serve in this capacity.

In addition to her professional roles, Mia strongly believes in giving back to the community. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the ZACH Theatre and The Americano Dream, and the Advisory Boards for the LBJ Women’s Campaign School and Hyde Park Schools of Austin, TX. She’s a Leadership Network Member of American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a member the Women’s Symphony League of Austin, President for the Hyde Park Parent Teacher Fellowship, and is currently a Fellow with the ADL/Aspen Institute’s Civil Society Fellowship. Mia serves on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Community Advisory Board.

McCord lives in Leander, Texas with her husband John, their two children, John Mark and Estela, and four dogs.
